Behind the Shine: How JetGlow Helped Prepare Some of AirVenture 2026’s Biggest Attractions

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh brings together some of the most recognizable, historic, and impressive aircraft in the world. For JetGlow, AirVenture 2026 was an opportunity to work behind the scenes on several of the show’s biggest attractions from a Red Bull DC-6 and a MiG-29 to award-winning vintage aircraft and a King Air that traveled halfway around the world.

Every aircraft arrived with a different history, condition, and deadline. Our responsibility was the same every time: use aircraft-safe processes to clean, restore, protect, and document each aircraft without compromising its materials or finishes.

Red Bull’s Legendary DC-6

The legendary Red Bull DC-6 was one of AirVenture 2026’s most recognizable attractions and JetGlow was honored to help prepare it for the show.

One of the most recognizable aircraft to arrive in Oshkosh was the Red Bull DC-6. JetGlow was trusted to perform a comprehensive interior cleaning on this historic aircraft.

Inside the Red Bull DC-6, JetGlow performed a comprehensive cabin cleaning and carpet extraction while carefully preserving the aircraft’s distinctive materials and historic character.

The service included detailed cleaning throughout the cabin, careful attention to high-touch areas, and a full carpet extraction. Years of passenger traffic and regular aircraft operations can leave dirt and contaminants embedded deep within carpeting, so extraction was necessary to lift that material and refresh the appearance of the cabin.

Working inside an aircraft of this significance requires patience and respect for every surface. The goal was not simply to make the cabin look clean, it was to preserve its distinctive character while bringing it back to the presentation standard expected of one of AirVenture’s premier attractions.

Preparing the Polaris and Ghost Squadron Aircraft

JetGlow technicians clean Jared Isaacman’s MiG-29 on the AirVenture grounds, completing a detailed degreasing and cleaning of the aircraft, landing gear, and gear wells.

JetGlow also had the privilege of working on aircraft associated with Jared Isaacman, NASA Administrator and founder of the Polaris Program.

The aircraft received a comprehensive exterior service that included a full wash, degreasing, landing-gear cleaning, and detailed cleaning of the gear wells. These are demanding areas that accumulate grease, hydraulic residue, carbon, dirt, and other operational contaminants.

Cleaning an aircraft properly means going beyond the surfaces people see from the crowd line. Landing gear, wheel assemblies, gear wells, lower fuselage areas, and other difficult-to-reach locations are all part of the aircraft’s overall condition.

We also cleaned and degreased Isaacman’s MiG-29, including its landing gear and gear wells. The MiG was one of the most impressive aircraft at AirVenture, but preparing an aircraft like this for display requires much more than a quick wipe-down. The work must be thorough, controlled, and performed with products and techniques appropriate for aviation surfaces.

For the JetGlow team, it was an incredible opportunity to help prepare such a rare aircraft for thousands of aviation enthusiasts to see up close.

Restoring the Shine on Jane VI

A JetGlow technician restores the mirror finish of Jane VI, carefully removing hard-water spotting, tarnish, grime, oil, and exhaust contamination from the P-51 Mustang’s polished aluminum.

One of the most rewarding projects of the week was Jane VI, a World War II-era P-51 Mustang.

The aircraft arrived after accumulating more than 30 hours of flying time. Its polished metal surfaces were heavily affected by hard-water spotting, grime, oxidation, and tarnishing. Oil and exhaust contamination were also present along the fuselage and wing areas.

Bare polished aluminum requires specialized care. Aggressive compounds, improper polishing equipment, or techniques commonly used on trucks and automotive surfaces can leave behind deep scratches, holograms, uneven reflections, and permanent surface damage.

JetGlow carefully de-scaled the aircraft from front to back to remove the severe mineral deposits and hard-water spotting. Areas of tarnished aluminum were polished using proper aircraft brightwork techniques, while sections needing minor correction were refined to restore clarity and shine. Engine exhaust, grease, and oil were removed without degrading the aircraft’s existing ceramic protection.

The result was a dramatically cleaner, brighter, and more uniform aircraft that still respected the character and history of this legendary warbird.

Jane VI went on to earn first place in its category at AirVenture 2026. We are extremely proud that our team had the opportunity to contribute to the presentation of this remarkable aircraft.

Two Vintage Aircraft and Two First-Place Awards!

Award-winning Aeronca Sedan detailed by JetGlow
This beautifully restored Aeronca Sedan received a full wash, degreasing, underbelly cleaning, leather-seat treatment, and spray ceramic protection—then earned first place in its category.

JetGlow also welcomed two beautiful vintage aircraft into our Oshkosh hangar: a fully polished Cessna 140 and an Aeronca Sedan.

The Cessna 140 arrived needing extensive cleaning following its trip to Oshkosh. Its service included a complete degreasing, removal of exhaust buildup, bug removal, underbelly cleaning, and corrective work on several brightwork areas.

First-Place Cessna 140 at AirVenture 2026
This polished Cessna 140 received a complete degreasing, exhaust and bug removal, underbelly cleaning, and brightwork correction before earning first place at AirVenture 2026.

Because the aircraft featured a highly polished aluminum exterior, every cleaning step had to be carefully controlled. Removing baked-on oil, exhaust, and travel grime from polished aluminum can cause chemical oxidation if the surface is not handled correctly. When necessary, our technicians performed finishing-polish corrections to return affected aluminum to a bright, mirror-like appearance.

The Aeronca Sedan received a full exterior wash, degreasing, and detailed underbelly cleaning. Inside the aircraft, its leather seats were carefully cleaned and conditioned. We finished the service by applying a spray ceramic protectant to improve gloss, add surface slickness, and help protect the aircraft from bugs, exhaust, dirt, and other contaminants.

Both vintage aircraft went on to earn first-place awards in their respective categories.

Having three aircraft touched by JetGlow, Jane VI, the Cessna 140, and the Aeronca Sedan receive first-place recognition was one of the proudest moments of our AirVenture experience. The awards belong to the owners, restorers, maintainers, and everyone who invested their time in preserving these aircraft. We are honored that JetGlow was trusted to provide the final preparation that helped them look their best on the judging field.

A King Air 200 From Kenya

King Air 200 after receiving JetGlow Armor ceramic protection
After flying to Oshkosh from Kenya, this King Air 200 received the complete JetGlow Armor™ service and was cleaned, corrected, ceramic-protected, and ready to depart in just two days.

AirVenture brings aircraft to Oshkosh from every corner of the world, but few of our projects demonstrated that international reach better than a King Air 200 that arrived from Kenya.

After such a long journey, the aircraft needed much more than a basic wash. The owner selected the JetGlow Armor™ service, our exterior reconditioning and ceramic-protection package designed to restore the aircraft’s finish and provide lasting protection.

We brought the King Air into our hangar on Wednesday night and immediately began the process. The aircraft was thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated before the paint was corrected and prepared for ceramic protection. The work required close coordination and a focused effort from our team because the owner needed to depart early Saturday morning.

JetGlow completed the entire Armor service in two days, allowing the owner to leave Oshkosh on schedule with a clean, polished, and protected aircraft for the remainder of his trip around the world.

This project showed what our team is capable of when quality and turnaround time are equally important. Whether an aircraft travels from across Wisconsin or across the world, it receives the same level of care and attention inside the JetGlow hangar.

JetGlow - More Than Making Aircraft Shine

AirVenture 2026 allowed JetGlow to work on everything from historic warbirds and award-winning classics to military jets, business aircraft, and one of the most recognizable DC-6s in the world.

Each aircraft required a different process. Some needed embedded cabin contaminants extracted. Others needed heavy grease and exhaust removed from their underbellies and gear wells. Polished aluminum required careful correction, while modern paint systems needed decontamination, polishing, and ceramic protection.

That is why JetGlow treats aircraft appearance as a form of condition maintenance, not simply cosmetic cleaning. We use aviation-specific products and techniques, document what we do and observe, and tailor every service to the materials, condition, and operational needs of the aircraft.

We are grateful to every owner, operator, pilot, and organization that trusted JetGlow during AirVenture 2026. Helping prepare these aircraft for the world’s greatest aviation celebration was an experience our team will never forget.

Whether you fly a vintage taildragger, a historic warbird, a business jet, or anything in between, JetGlow is ready to help preserve its condition and keep it looking its best.
