Mission-Ready Shine: JetGlow Details Four Polaris Ghost Squadron F-5s for AirVenture 2026

In the days leading up to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026, JetGlow had the privilege of preparing four Northrop F-5 fighter jets from the Polaris Ghost Squadron for their appearance at the world’s largest aviation celebration.
Before arriving in Oshkosh, the jets had just completed a high-profile flight appearance in Washington, D.C., as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration. After representing American aviation over the nation’s capital, the squadron headed to Oshkosh ahead of schedule so JetGlow could get the aircraft into our hangar and begin preparing them for AirVenture.
Flying four high-performance jets from Washington to Wisconsin naturally left behind the evidence of an active mission: carbon residue, grease, operational grime, water spotting and contamination around the landing gear and gear wells. With thousands of aviation enthusiasts and photographers preparing to see these remarkable aircraft up close, the F-5s needed more than a quick wipe-down. They needed a complete, aviation-focused cleaning performed by a team that understood the aircraft and the importance of their appearance. That is where JetGlow went to work.
Welcoming the Squadron to Oshkosh

JetGlow was ready when the four
F-5s arrived in Oshkosh. Our team coordinated their arrival and brought the aircraft into our hangar, giving the squadron a clean, controlled location where each jet could receive the attention it deserved.
JetGlow is not an FBO, but we believe our customers should still receive that same level of welcoming, attentive support when they arrive at our facility. From helping coordinate aircraft movement to providing hangar space and preparing for the crew’s needs, our goal is to make every visit as convenient and professional as possible.
When an aircraft comes to JetGlow, it is not treated like another job on the schedule. We understand that the aircraft, the crew and the mission all matter. Whether we are working with a privately owned aircraft, a corporate flight department, a historic warbird or a squadron of high-performance military jets, our customers can expect hands-on service from the moment they arrive.
A Complete Exterior Cleaning Process
Each of the four F-5s received a comprehensive exterior cleaning designed to remove the contamination accumulated during flight operations while protecting the aircraft’s finishes and sensitive surfaces.
The service included:
Full-aircraft degreasing
Carbon and exhaust-residue removal
Hard-water spot removal
Landing-gear cleaning
Gear-well cleaning
Complete exterior dry wash
Final inspection and presentation preparation
Every stage required careful attention. High-performance aircraft can develop significant concentrations of grease, oil, carbon and exhaust residue around the belly, landing gear, gear wells and engine areas. These contaminants cannot simply be scrubbed away with aggressive chemicals or general-purpose cleaning methods. The process must be effective while remaining appropriate for the aircraft’s paint, markings, metals and surrounding components.
Removing Grease and Operational Buildup

The process began with a detailed assessment of each aircraft. Our technicians identified areas with accumulated grease, oil and operational grime, paying particular attention to the undersides of the jets and the areas surrounding the landing gear.
We then used aviation-appropriate products and controlled cleaning techniques to break down and remove the buildup. Degreasing a fighter jet requires patience and precision. Stronger is not always better, especially when working around painted surfaces, military markings, seams, fasteners and aircraft components.
Our goal was to thoroughly clean each aircraft without creating unnecessary risk to its finish.
Carbon and Exhaust-Residue Removal

Carbon and exhaust staining are expected on aircraft that are flown regularly, especially high-performance jets. The F-5s’ recent flight operations and trip from Washington, D.C., added to the residue that needed to be addressed before the show.
Over time, this contamination can form dark, stubborn deposits that become increasingly difficult to remove. JetGlow carefully treated the affected areas, allowing the cleaning products and techniques to do the work without relying on excessive abrasion.
Removing this buildup restored a cleaner, more uniform appearance while helping prevent the residue from continuing to accumulate. This is one of the differences between basic aircraft washing and professional aircraft condition maintenance. We do not simply clean the easiest, most visible surfaces. We focus on the areas where operational contamination collects and where proper maintenance can make the greatest difference.
Correcting Hard-Water Spotting

Hard-water deposits can leave visible mineral spotting across an aircraft’s exterior. If those deposits are allowed to remain, they can become more difficult to remove and may eventually affect the appearance of the underlying finish.
The F-5s received targeted hard-water spot removal using methods selected for the condition of each surface. Our technicians worked carefully to remove the mineral residue and restore a cleaner, more consistent finish without unnecessarily stressing the aircraft’s paint.
By addressing the water spotting before AirVenture, JetGlow helped ensure the jets looked their best not only from a distance, but also under the close inspection of spectators and photographers.
Cleaning the Landing Gear and Gear Wells

The landing gear and gear wells are some of the most demanding areas of any aircraft to clean. They are exposed to grease, hydraulic residue, brake dust, dirt and other contaminants generated during normal operations.
They are also areas where rushed or inexperienced cleaning can cause problems.
JetGlow cleaned the landing gear and accessible gear-well surfaces of all four
F-5s using controlled application methods. Our technicians worked around components, lines and surrounding structures with the care required for complex aircraft.
This portion of the service made a major difference in the overall presentation of the jets. Clean landing gear and gear wells show that an aircraft has been prepared completely, not just cleaned where it is easiest for the public to see.
Completing the Full Dry Wash

After the concentrated contamination had been addressed, each F-5 received a complete dry wash. This process removed the remaining dirt, fingerprints, streaking and light surface contamination from the aircraft’s exterior.
A professional dry wash is especially valuable when water use is limited, unnecessary or undesirable. It also gives our technicians the opportunity to work methodically across the aircraft, inspecting each section while cleaning it.
The dry wash brought the entire service together, leaving the jets clean, uniform and ready for their AirVenture appearance. Once the work was complete, our team conducted a final walk around to review the finished condition of each aircraft and make sure no areas had been overlooked.
From the Nation’s Capital to the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration
The journey of these four F-5s made their preparation especially meaningful. After flying over Washington, D.C., as part of America’s historic 250th anniversary celebration, the Polaris Ghost Squadron brought the aircraft directly to Oshkosh for their next important appearance.
Arriving early gave JetGlow the time and controlled environment needed to care for each aircraft properly. Inside our Oshkosh hangar, our technicians could work through every stage of the process before the jets moved to the AirVenture grounds.
AirVenture is unlike any other aviation event. Aircraft travel from around the world to Oshkosh, where they are viewed and photographed by hundreds of thousands of aviation enthusiasts. For a team like the Polaris Ghost Squadron, aircraft presentation is part of the complete experience.
JetGlow was proud to help make that transition, from an important national celebration in Washington, D.C., to the biggest aviation gathering in the world.
More Than a Place to Detail an Aircraft

Although JetGlow is not an FBO, we understand that aircraft operators need more than a cleaning crew. They need a dependable partner who can help coordinate the details, receive the aircraft and provide a professional place to prepare for the next mission.
Our hangar in Oshkosh allowed the F-5s to be brought inside and professionally prepared before the show. We believe in treating every customer with the hospitality, coordination and attention they should expect when bringing an aircraft to our facility.
We do not simply wait for the aircraft to arrive and point toward the hangar. We become part of the solution.
